Glan Yr Afon

Ffestiniog Holiday Cottages, SnowdoniaA delightful 18th century miner’s holiday cottage which retains many character features such as an impressive inglenook fireplace with multi fuel stove in the lounge and exposed beams. Set amongst dramatic scenery in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, the Cottage is an ideal base for couples and families. Dogs are also welcome.

Glan yr Afon Cottage has been successfully renovated and exudes a warm friendly welcome, along with providing cosy, comfortable accommodation of a high standard throughout. Situated in a quiet terrace in the village of Tanygrisiau, meaning ‘Under the Steps’, Glan yr Afon Cottage is away from the main thoroughfare, with no passing traffic making it a ‘perfect getaway from it all’ location.

The cottage stands amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoys views of countryside and hills encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind in the winter. The village has a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it is located in Snowdonia.

There are some fantastic walks, lakes and waterfalls that can be enjoyed from the cottage and the area is great for fishing and golfing. The Lakeside café is only a two minute walk from the cottage and the village pub is about a twenty minute walk away.

The slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is just one and a half miles away and offers an array of eating establishments, pubs, shops, chemist, petrol station/garage and leisure centre/swimming pool. Blaenau Ffestiniog is also the home to the World Famous Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Steam railway which links to the harbour town of Porthmadog.

Glan yr Afon really is the ideal base for exploring the many attractionsSnowdonia has to offer. The Italianate village of Portmeirion is only eight miles away, Llechwedd Slate Caverns, ZipWorld Titan and Bounce Below is one and a half miles and many CADW heritage sites and beaches are only a short twenty to thirty minute drive away. Coed y Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain is also only twelve miles away and of course, there is Snowdon itself, which is about a thirty minute drive.
